Because that's just what you do at eleven o'clock at night—

January 19, 2017

—you learn the Pathetique sonata.
But come on, anything composed by Beethoven is worth it, right? ;)
Last night I found myself playing the Pathetique sonata on the keyboard in my room . . . not to mention it was at eleven o'clock on a school night. :D

Lately, I have been enjoying a bounty of things.  Mainly—

~ Ice-skating on our pond.
We've gone out twice now! :)  Some skate confusion always occurs—"I want to wear the size 6's today!" "No, it's my turn!", or at least, that's the gist of it—but other than that, it's been lots of fun.

~ The crisp weather but no snow.
I definitely appreciate the picturesqueness of snowflakes when they are actively falling, but other than that, I find snow a bit useless not really being the sledding type of person.  To be honest, it just makes farm chores a whole lot harder!  But chilly weather, the kind you can bundle up in five layers in, is right up my alley.

~ Taking photos of our indoor plants which have for some odd reason decided to all bloom at the same time!
My mom got two lovely pink hyacinths plants from the grocery store the other day.  It's the coolest thing because the bulbs are placed in clear vases 75% full of water and you can see the roots!  I'll post the photos I took soon.  Also, the Christmas cacti and another plant (we forgot the name of it) :P are all blooming like it's the end of the world. ;)  Our jade plant has finally taken off!

~ Playing the keyboard which I recently moved up to my bedroom 24/7.
We have an upright piano as well, but it's in such a high-traffic place that I just prefer to blunder about on a piano elsewhere.  We're also thinking about taking a square grand piano off a friend's hands . . . eeek!!

~ Humming Florence & The Machine.
Even though I've hardly been listening to any of her music, for some reason it's all that's been in my head!  Some of my favorite songs, for anyone who is interested, include: What The Water Gave Me, Never Let Me Go, Shake It Out, Cosmic Love, No Light No Light, Queen Of Peace, How Big How Blue How Beautiful, and Hiding.

~ Thoughtfulness.
Because kindness and thoughtfulness matter so much more than you know, and the thoughtful people in my life have really been making an impact on me.

~ Writing in my journal at every spare moment.
I have filled up more than a third of my new journal since I started it three weeks ago!  Wow!

~ Turtlenecks and turtledoves.
Just because they sound pretty together.

~ Late-night ice cream surreptitiously eaten in my bedroom.  (Don't tell Mom.) ;)
Mint Ting-A-Ling, Cherry, and French Vanilla.  Unfortunately, the Salted Caramel wasn't on sale! *grunt of annoyance* :P

~ Quiet places.
. . . where thoughts get the better of me.  I'd have to say, sometimes I seriously think my thoughts are my worst enemy.

~ Cutting out and drawing paper dolls.
Mostly my book characters, but also some real-life people.  I've been using watercolors lately instead of Prismacolor markers and am really liking the effect.  Also, I am on a revolution against inking pens!  Only Prismacolor Ebonys for me, thank you. ;)  I'll post a bunch of photos of the paper dolls on The Inkpot Girl soon.

What has been filling up your time?
Which is more powerful in your opinion: actions or words?  Why?

Recently, I've been doing a lot of college research and blog post planning.

Your photography is stunning, as usual!

Ellie | On the Other Side of Reality

    1. Thanks for commenting, Ellie!! Those things sounds super fun. Good luck with your college research!
Aww, thanks! That's very sweet of you. <3

  2. Wowwwww, Sophie! These pictures are so serene and they really get me into the mood. XD
Taking up my time? Listening to book-on-tapes, and music. I like music, too, because I get to let my mind wander. Yes, I do think that thoughts can kind of be your worst enemy. But which is more important? I think they're both just as important as you make them to be. :)

    Great post! :D

    Amelia xxx

    1. Thank you, Amelia!! So glad you liked them. They were fun to take. ;)
Ooo, book on tapes are so fun! Which music artists are you enjoying?
Yay, so glad you agree with me! ;D
Thanks for answering the question. I love hearing your thoughts.

  3. Hi Sophia!!!!!!!! Ugh, I haven't commented in AGES and I am so sorry!!!! I have read your posts, and appreciated the beautiful pictures, I can assure you, but just haven't had really anything to say! But I am commenting now, so hopefully that will make up for a little bit of my non-commenting.
Oh my gosh I am so jealous!!!! We have a roll-out keyboard that... um.. sorta works. I'm not complaining, it is SO much better than nothing, but ugh it's so unfair that you can just go and learn music peices! I can't even read notes!! And you are going to get a grand piano?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT EVEN. :) But I am very happy for you. I'm sure it is WONDERFULL, and of course!!! What ELSE would you do at eleven at night but learn a Beethoven sonata???? It makes perfect sense!! I do that ALL the time!!! Well, in my dreams, but you know. Same difference.
Ice-skating??? Again, so not fair. I have wanted to learn how to skate on ice for like... EVER!
huh.. yeah I can dig that. I mean, personally, I LOVE snow, and cold, but I can see how it could be a bother with chores on a farm! I adore seeing a world (city, backyard, whatever) clothed in white. Perhaps if I had it every year in the same place I would get done with it, but a lot of places we have lived in have had two seasons in the year: wet, and dry. So it's hot hot HOT and just no. But bundling and cold are THE BEST AND AMAZING so yep.
ooh the plants sound so beautiful and cool!!!!!
I have never heard of that artist!! *scurries off to Spotify* *plays the music on Spotify*
It really pays to be thoughtfull doesn't it? I have been trying to be more thoughtfull lately, actually. As Mother Teresa says, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly boundless"
I have been making my own journal out of an old Bobbsey Twins book. Glueing lined paper over the words and writing in it, but I haven't done much. It's been fun!!
That DOES sound pretty! Haha, I don't really like turtle-necks though, they make me feel so confined and chokey.
YES for eating icecream on the sly in the bedroom!!!!!!!!! Those sound delicious!!!! (HEY SOPHIA'S MOM!!!!!!!!) JK, I never would! Your secret's safe with me ;)
Oh gosh, I know exactly what you mean!!! My thoughts are my worst enemy so so many times! I love to sit and think, but sometimes... *shakes head* I guess that's kind of the point, though, being able to keep a close guard on our minds and tongues is almost impossible, but so necesarry. Ugh, why am I preaching?? Just ignore what I just said, it makes less sense than a straw anyway.
ooh!!! I have a feeling I knew about your other blog, but for some reason I forgot!!!! Going to subscribe now, because I wanna see those paperdolls!!
My time has been filled with coloring, procrastinating writing and reading to myself as well as aloud to my siblings. Listening to a lot of music, and getting over a cold so I can finally post another song cover!!
Hmmmm... I don't know... I guess it depends. Words are sweet and important and bring me to the highest of joys, and drop me into the depths of despair so very easily, but actions can do the same. I guess words appeal to me more, as a writer, but I definitely think actions are important. Saying you will do something is different than actually doing it... yeah, I don't know. You know what? I think words are more powerfull. You know like the saying 'their bark is worse than their bite' that is true of a lot of people, I think. It's an interesting question! And cool to think about!!

    1. Holy gargantuan comment! :)
No worries! I truly do love your comments though. You're always so encouraging. Thanks for all of your effort! It is so so appreciated.
Oh goodness, I can't read music either! Well, I can read a bit of treble clef, but I'm absolutely hopeless at bass clef. My piano teacher gets so frustrated with me sometimes. ;) I just can't seem to learn the blasted notes though!! LOL, well dreaming about learning Beethoven sonatas sounds great too! :)
Hehe, I am not—I must admit—a very good ice skater. For some reason I learned to ice skate only using my left foot to push, so I'm definitely a sight to see scooting along the ice. ;) But I can go pretty fast! . . . I just can only push with one foot though, lol.
Yay! Glad I'm not alone with my crazy thoughts. :)
You should definitely check her out! I don't know if you would like her because I'm not sure what kind of music you like, but she definitely is worth a try. She has a super cool voice with an amazing vibrato!
Mother Teresa was one smart woman. She is absolutely right!
That is such a darn good idea!!! Oh my goodness I need to do that for my next journal!! Where did you get the idea from?
I agree! I despise turtlenecks too, but they always sounds sorta cool. ;)
LOL Okay it's a deal, we'll be partners in crime then. ;)
Yay, another thing we both agree on! Wow, we're really turning out to be total twinsies. :) No, it makes a ton of sense, Esther! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! It's nice to know that I'm not alone.
      Thank you!!
Heh, I definitely been procrastinating writing too. Blech. Aww, I hope you feel better soon! Colds just stink. Especially when you have something you want to get done! Can't wait to hear the song cover! Let me know when you release it. :)
I totally get you! I thought words at first too, but then I was reading into it some more and am now undecided. I thought a good example was if someone tells you they love you, but they don't actually act loving to you at all. . . . I don't know, it's definitely an interesting concept to think about.
Thanks for your awesome comment!! It means so much to me. <3 <3

    2. haha woops. I didn't even mean to make it that long, it just.. happened? hehehe yeah. Good thing you don't mind!
Oh... well, you are better than me! I wish I had a teacher! haha, I fiddle around by ear, but I wish I could learn songs from a book, or a sheet, you know?
Yes, dreaming is great.... mostly. But non-dreamers don't understand me very well. In a book I read (The Doldrums) It said there are two kinds of people: dreamers and doers. I think to a certain extent this is true. But there is also the in-betweeners.
You know, I don't think it really matters how good you are at skating (unless you are competing, then yeah), the point is to have fun. At least, that is what I think, in my limited experience.
Hahaha, we can be crazy thinkers together! What's crazy with one is fun when shared, eh?
I really like what I have heard so far! She has a great voice, you're right!!
Hahaha you can say that again. Mother Teresa was awesome.
Thanks! I got it from a blog- here is the link

Happen to be a Doctor Who fan?
      yes!! *high five*
Wow!! Yeah! *higher five* TWINSIES ARE THE BEST! Well, thank you for understanding! It IS so nice to know I am not alone! So welcome.
Thanks! I am pretty much over it! I just still have a plugged nose and my voice is raspy and breathy. Not. Cool. But what am I complaining for? I am fine besides that! Oh don't I know it. Stinky colds...
haha okay, I will! I'll post it on my blog. Actually, I might do 2 songs, since I just wrote a song today. I really want to!!
Hmm.. yeah. Actually, just the other day my younger sister said she didn't think I loved her. I was so confused! I really do love her!! But I guess I don't show it enough? I dunno, I'm not a touchy-feely person, so maybe that is part of it.
You're welcome! Thank YOU for replying to mine! I know it was long!
ugh, I bet this one is long too... woops. :p

    3. LOL I totally don't mind! :)
Yes, I definitely understand. My older sister, who is taking phycology, was telling me the other day that there actually is a name for when a person just literally can't learn something. Hehe, I think that would be me. ;)
Well, everyone is different and I suppose we always just have to respect each other nonetheless. Dreamers and nondreamers think differently and it's not their fault that they were wired in different ways. Ooo, that's super cool! Hmm . . . that book sounds really interesting. :) I'm not sure which I would classify myself as—a dreamer or a doer. That's a good thing to think about next time I'm bored. ;) lol
So glad you're enjoying her! Some of her lyrics are definitely intense, but other than that, I really really like her music.
      *highest five!!* Yay!!
Awesome, can't wait to check them out! Thanks for letting me know!
Oh man, I'm exactly the same way. I just can't help it though!
Hehe, don't worry about it! I've been really enjoying chatting with you! (Lol, but probably all the other people who read this post are going to be like "Umm, wow what the heck are those two doing? Trying to write a novel in comment form?") ;P <3

    4. GREAT! Cuz, I'm commenting again.
Hahaha! Well, there's always other things to learn! I'm sure you are good at lots of things!! (photography, to name one, also blogging)
Yes, very true. Yep! D'accord! (haha, one of the only french phrases I know) Oh yes, the book is VERY interesting!!! READ IT. Hahaha, SAME. Really, we ARE such twinsies!! Wait till you're bored to think- good idea, that!
Yeah, know what'cha mean! Thank you so much for suggesting her!
Yeah... I've been trying to work on it, showing all my siblings I love them.
Yeah, this has been SO much fun!!
(Hahaha, and I have to say to them: 'Um yeah! What else??' :D )

    5. Aww, thanks!! It's mostly just practice though. I've had a blog for like four years so. . . . :)
Heh, well pretty much the only french phrase I know is "bon nuit", so we're in the same boat. ;)
      Lol!! xD
